Paper Beads & Silver Beads Necklace, Uganda

Regular price $12.00

These paper bead necklaces are paired with silver beads to create a simple, yet beautiful necklace.

Paper beads are made by cutting recycled paper into long strips. Then rolling each strip into a bead. The bead is then glued and dipped into a clear varnish to give it durability, hardness, and sheen.

Project Have Hope is a 501(c)3 non-profit that seeks to empower women in the Acholi Quarter of Uganda. They provide education to women and their children and assist women in establishing business opportunities to promote economic stability and sustainability.

Many of these women not only care for their own children, but also the children of relatives who have died of HIV-related illnesses. The women find the most needy children and Project Have Hope ensures that they receive a quality education that helps them to realize their potential. They sponsor over 100 children ranging from age 5-21.

PHH built a community center in 2007 to host community meetings, celebrations, and to offer adult literacy classes. They currently have over 30 students, most of which had received little to no basic education.

PHH provides a variety of vocational training through local schools, such as catering, tailoring, computing, and drivers education. They also offer interest free loans for members to start viable small businesses. These businesses include raising animals, taxi drivers, restaurants, beauty salons, and more.

There are also many other community programs offered such as balcony gardens, greenhouses, solar cooking, and a deworming program.
